KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.26 g, 2 h), Tarsos, struck under Philotas or Philoxenos, 323-317. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, Nike standing right, presenting wreath; below throne, monogram. Price 3038 var. (slightly differing monogram). A very well centered and beautifully toned piece of lovely style. Extremely fine.

From an American collection, ex Triton XVI, 8 January 2013, 294 and previously from the Continental Collection, privately acquired in the 1970s.
